The 2017 Sunflower Visual Arts Festivalwill be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 11AM to 5PM in Lucas, Kansas. 

The Deadline for entry in Shutter Shots 2017 is Noon, Wednesday, September 27, 2017 !

This year the featured visual art at the 2017 Sunflower Visual Arts Festival will a revisit of Moving Images. The importance of Moving Imagesto the human psyche throughout history cannot be understated. Moving Images have been used to entertain, to inform and educate, and to influence how we choose to live our lives.


The Schedule for the Festival is as follows (subject to change):

11AM – Opening of the Sunflower Visual Arts Festival 2017 and unveiling of the 2017 Inductees into the Kansas Movie Hall of Fame& the Kansas Thespian Hall of Fame, Lucas Area Community Theater, 116 South Main Street. Closes at 3PM.

11:30AM – Shutter Shots 2017 Photo Exhibit and Contest opens, First Baptist Church, 111 North Main Street (at the intersection of First and Main Streets). Closes at 3PM.

Noon – Lucas Rural Fire Department Benefit Barbecue, Lucas Volunteer Rural Fire Department, South Main Street. Featuring Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, & Brats. All proceeds go to the Lucas Rural Volunteer Fire Department and the Sunflower Visual Arts Festival.

1PM – Basic Photography Workshopwith area photographer Ian Shaw, Lucas Area Community Theater, 116 South Main Street.

3PM – Close of Shutter Shots 2017and Hall of Fame exhibits.

3PM – Presentation on the film Home On the Range, featuring director Ken Spurgeon of Lone Chimney Films. Screening of the 2017 movie Home On the Range, Lucas Area Community Theater, 116 South Main Street.

5PM or 15 minutes after conclusion of movie Home on the Range Presentation of Awards, Lucas Area Community Theater, 116 South Main Street.  Dispersal and pickup of photographs will commence after the Presentation of Awards.


Downtown Lucas, Kansas, site of the Sunflower Visual Arts Festival, is a free WiFi zone, courtesy of the Lucas Public Library and the City of Lucas!
